Hamlet

Shaping a hamlet

Agents, roads, budgets, mayors and more hamlets, by asking or by hand.

The mayor shapes its hamlet as the work needs: it creates agents, lays roads and divides the budget. You can ask it to, in plain words, or do any of it yourself. Everything here is also on the menu you get by right-clicking a house, a robot or a common.

Talking to one agent

You are not limited to the mayor. Select an agent and type, or:

/to scout find the three newest papers

Roads

Agents talk to each other only along roads. Every agent has a road to its mayor, and the mayor lays others where two agents need to work together.

/road scout editor

A road shows its use: a dirt path when new, paved once it is regular, and a railroad when it carries heavy traffic.

The budget

Every model call is counted. The hamlet has a budget, and each agent a share of it.

/budget the hamlet's spend and each agent's share
/share scout 20 set an agent's share to 20 percent
/share scout +5 raise it by 5

Skills

An agent’s skills are folders in its house. You can hand one over:

/give scout web-search
/give editor summarise from scout

Removing, merging and bringing back

/remove scout remove an agent and archive its house
/merge scout into editor fold one agent into another
/restore scout bring back a removed or merged agent
/record who was created, removed, merged and restored

A removed agent’s house is archived, not deleted. /erase <agent> deletes it for good, to free its room on disk.

Mayors and votes

Agents can vote a mayor out. Any agent may call a vote, and it passes with two thirds. You are told when one is called, and you have the last word.

/votes this hamlet's votes, with every ballot
/overturn 2 reverse a vote that passed, or stop an open one
/mayor editor make an agent of this hamlet its mayor

More hamlets

One hamlet is one team. For a different kind of work, found another:

/found mill miller keeps the build green

That is the hamlet’s name, its mayor’s name and its purpose. Right-clicking bare ground does the same, at that spot.

/hamlets list the hamlets and their mayors
/name-hamlet mill foundry call a hamlet something else
/remove-hamlet mill remove a hamlet and archive its houses
/restore-hamlet mill bring it back

/chief lists every command about hamlets and votes.
